AKS Graduate Fellowship 2027
The Academy of Korean Studies (AKS) runs a six-month fellowship in South Korea for international graduate students who are researching something related to Korea You don’t move there for a degree. You stay enrolled at your own university and spend the fellowship period doing research at the Graduate School of Korean Studies.
The 2027 call has not been announced yet The details below come from the 2026 round, which is usually a good guide, but dates and amounts can change, so treat them as last year’s numbers until AKS publishes the new notice.
What the 2026 round offered
Fellows received a monthly stipend of 750,000 KRW, an economy return flight (reimbursed at actual cost, up to a limit), a free room in the on-campus dormitory, and free Korean language classes The fellowship ran from 1 September 2026 to 28 February 2027 Living costs beyond the stipend were up to the fellow.
Who could apply
You had to be a foreign national, or a Korean citizen who had completed your education abroad You also needed to be currently enrolled in a Master’s or doctoral program at a university outside Korea, or be a Master’s student who had finished coursework and was working on the thesis. Your research topic had to be connected to Korea or Korean studies AKS did not list an age limit in the notice.
When to expect the next call
The 2026 applications opened on 27 April and closed on 8 May 2026. If AKS follows the same pattern, the 2027 call is likely to open around April or May 2027, but that is a guess, not an announcement Keep an eye on the Graduate School of Korean Studies website.
How to apply
Last year, applicants applied online through the AKS recruitment portal after reading the application guidelines on the school’s website AKS also lists an email contact for questions: grad_fellowship@aks.ac.kr.
