If you’re looking for a UNICEF fellowship in 2027, the programme to watch is the UNICEF Innocenti Youth Fellowship It’s run by UNICEF’s research office and gives young people a way to shape policy and public debate, with a mentor and a small group of other fellows beside them. Nothing is open at the moment, so this guide is about what the last round looked like and how to be ready for the next one.
What is the UNICEF Innocenti Youth Fellowship?
It’s part of UNICEF Innocenti’s work on youth participation. Fellows learn futures thinking, leadership, communication and how to push for change in systems They work with mentors, swap ideas with each other and take part in meetings with decision makers.
The current group (2026 to 2027) focuses on climate education. It has 12 fellows from 12 countries, covering all UNICEF regions. Each of them documents a “bright spot” in climate education, helps with youth-led research, joins policy talks and co-hosts events.

Who Could Apply Last Time?
The last call was for young people between 10 and 30 who lead, or represent, a climate education project. You had to care about climate action, be able to give four to five hours a week and work comfortably in English. The official page doesn’t list rules of its own, so treat these as last year’s conditions, not a promise for 2027.
Stipend and Grant Support
According to the call that circulated last time, fellows received a stipend and could get up to USD 20,000 in grant support. The stipend amount wasn’t published, and I only found the grant figure on a third-party listing, so check it with UNICEF before you count on it.
When Is the Next Call?
UNICEF hasn’t announced one. The last call closed on 6 January 2026 and the fellowship runs until July 2027, so the next round may not open until that group finishes. That’s an educated guess, not an announcement.
How to Be Ready
Sign up for the UNICEF Innocenti Youth Network newsletter on the official page, which sends updates on youth opportunities In the meantime, start or document a climate education project, since that’s what the last round asked for Past UNICEF calls have also held online information sessions before the deadline, so watch for those.
