PM Internship India 2026

The PM Internship Scheme is an Indian government programme that places young people in paid internships at participating companies. Many websites headline “₹9,000 per month and a free certificate,” but the details differ between sources.

This guide uses the most consistent information we found and flags what you should confirm on the official portal.

This scheme is for Indian citizens

You must be an Indian citizen to apply. If you are an international student, this isn’t an option for you.

What the stipend actually is

The sources we read describe the monthly amount as a combined figure from the government and the host company, not ₹9,000 from the government alone.

One guide says it’s a minimum of ₹9,000 a month. Sources disagree on the split, so confirm it on the official portal. A one-time ₹6,000 grant is paid separately, after joining, and isn’t paid every month.

A guide says these amounts replaced the ₹5,000 monthly rate from the original pilot. Payment depends on joining, attendance and verification.

An older guide we read shows different figures (age 21 to 24, family income under ₹8 lakh, 12-month duration), and its own page says it isn’t affiliated with the government, so treat it as outdated.

Who can apply

  • You must be an Indian citizen aged 18 to 25 at the time of application.
  • You can’t be in full-time employment or in ineligible full-time education.
  • Final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students may apply with a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their institution. Eligibility was extended to them on 22 April 2026, according to Foundit.
  • Students in eligible online or distance-learning programmes may apply.
  • Each applicable family member (you, your parents, your spouse) must not have exceeded ₹12 lakh income in the previous financial year, counted individually, not as combined household income.
  • No applicable family member can be a permanent or regular government employee.
  • Some institutions (such as IITs, IIMs and NLUs) and professional qualifications (such as CA, MBBS, MBA and PGDM) are excluded. Check the official declaration for the full list.

Qualifying levels range from Class 10 and Class 12 to ITI, diplomas undergraduate degrees and permitted postgraduate degrees. Each listing sets its own requirements.

Insurance and certificate

Interns get life insurance under PMJJBY and accident insurance under PMSBY. A joint digital completion certificate from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and the host company is issued after successful completion. A third-party site says interns who leave early after completing at least half the duration may request a participation certificate.

The certificate is part of the scheme, but it is not a separate “free certificate course,” so don’t expect it to be given on its own.

How to apply

  1. Register at pminternship.mca.gov.in and complete the OTP and Aadhaar-based e-KYC.
  2. Complete your profile and upload any required documents, including the NOC if you are a final-year student.
  3. Browse internships and check each listing’s qualifications, location, duration and status.
  4. Apply to a specific internship. Registering alone doesn’t count as an application.
  5. Track your application and respond to any offer within the deadline.

Round status and deadlines

Round III launched on 20 March 2026 There’s no common deadline, because each internship has its own application window. Foundit gives an example of a listing that closed in May 2026 Check the portal for active listings.
