Who can apply
The reports agree that this is for top-performing students at government schools, based on the Grade 9 (SSC-I) results. In Azad Kashmir, Islamabad and Gilgit-Baltistan, Grade 10 (SSC-II) students are also included.
The reports differ on some details. ARY News says students need at least 50% in the latest SSC-I exam and that private schools supported by provincial governments, and registered madaris, are also included. Daily Pakistan says only government school students can apply and that there is no nationwide marks cutoff, because each board sets its own criteria. Because the reports disagree, check the official portal before you decide you qualify.
How selection works
Selection is merit-based within each province or region, education board and stream. The Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) validates results. ARY News gives these regional quotas:
- Punjab: 181,090
- Sindh: 85,925
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 51,170
- Balochistan: 31,815
- Islamabad (ICT): 100,000
- Azad Kashmir: 25,000
- Gilgit-Baltistan: 25,000
Within each quota, 80% goes to school students and 20% to madaris students.
